Acoustic Wave Elastography of Arteries: Theory, Simulations, Experiments, Validation

چکیده
In vivo measurement of the mechanical properties of thin-walled soft tissues (e.g., mitral valve, artery and bladder) and in situ mechanical characterization of thinwalled artificial soft biomaterials in service are of great challenge and difficult to address via commonly used testing methods. Here we investigate the properties of guided waves in immersed pre-stressed plates and tubes, and show that they can address this challenge in a nondestructive manner. To this end, we carry out (i) a theoretical analysis based on incremental wave motion in finite deformation theory (ii) finite element simulations and we validate these results with (iii) experiments on cryogel phantoms immersed in water.

Tissue mimicking materials for the detection of prostate cancer using shear wave elastography: a validation study.
PURPOSE Quantification of stiffness changes may provide important diagnostic information and aid in the early detection of cancers. Shear wave elastography is an imaging technique that assesses tissue stiffness using acoustic radiation force as an alternate to manual palpation reported previously with quasistatic elastography. In this study, the elastic properties of tissue mimicking materials,...
متن کاملA Finite Element Model of Shear Wave Propagation Induced By an Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse
Shear wave elastography is an innovative technique that employs one conventional focused ultrasound beam to induce shear waves and another to detect them. The final quantitative elasticity image is presented as a colour map overlaying the B-mode image. This new technique is used in combination with traditional ultrasound imaging in order to improve the specificity of distinguishing malignant an...
متن کاملShear wave elastography plaque characterization with mechanical testing validation: a phantom study.
Determining plaque vulnerability is critical when selecting the most suitable treatment for patients with atherosclerotic plaque. Currently, clinical non-invasive ultrasound-based methods for plaque characterization are limited to visual assessment of plaque morphology and new quantitative methods are needed. In this study, shear wave elastography (SWE) was used to characterize hard and soft pl...

متن کاملBiomechanical properties of soft tissue measurement using Optical Coherence Elastography
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) provides images at near histological resolution, which allows for the identification of micron sized morphological tissue structures. Optical coherence elastography (OCE) measures tissue displacement and utilizes the high resolution of OCT to generate high-resolution stiffness maps. In this work, we explored the potential of measuring shear wave propagation us...
